I first heard about the Pixies when I was reading about Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain; the grunge legend said that he was ripping off Pixies’ quiet and loud style in Nirvana’s biggest hit, Smells Like Teen Spirit. 2016 was not, by most accounts, a great year, with Trump, Brexit and an uncountable number of celebrity deaths. However, the music scene rose above this, with The 1975’s I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It and The Last Shadow Puppets Everything You’ve Come To Expect ruling the indie market. My Favourite Song Right Now: Used To Be My Girl by The Last Shadow Puppets

Right now, I absolutely love this tune. It comes off the supergroup’s second album, Everything You’ve Come To Expect, and while there are plenty of great songs this one is simply fantastic. It exemplifies the feel of their second album, and the fact that both Miles and Alex have their own verses shows how Used To Be My Girl works well for both of them. The music itself is great as it makes you want to dance in that kind of ironic, over-the-top way that the band itself often employs at gigs.
